Singer-songwriter Gavin Adcock is teasing his upcoming album ‘The Day I Hang It Up’ by sharing the 26-song tracklist, while also releasing his new single “Having One Now,” available to stream now.
“Having One Now,” written by Adcock with Luke Laird and Rhett Akins, takes a lighter turn as it follows a narrator whose fortunes improve after an unexpected romantic encounter. Adcock described the song as being about finding love after a difficult stretch, adding, “Last week I dropped a sad song. The week before that I dropped a song for all the blue-collar people out there. So, get ready… and don’t be surprised if I drop another one next week.”
Adcock’s third studio album The Day I Hang It Up will arrive on Oct. 2 through Thrivin Here Records LLC (under an exclusive license to Warner Records Nashville.) The latest release follows a steady run of song drops from the Georgia country singer, including “Wannabe,” “Cheap Thrills” (a collaboration with Hudson Westbrook), “The Day I Hang It Up,” “Workin’ Man” and “Shoes.” The album also features collaborations with Treaty Oak Revival on “Us Again,” and Ernest on “Save My Breath.” Adcock is credited as a co-writer on all but four of the album’s songs.
Adcock said on social media as he reflected on the rapid rise of his career and the experiences that inspired the new record. “This last 5 years have been the wildest time of my life,” he wrote, adding that life on the road and personal challenges have shaped both his songwriting and outlook. He also emphasized his long-term commitment to making music, declaring that he intends to continue performing and recording for the rest of his career.
Co-written by Adcock and Jon Michael McKinnon, Adcock previously shared that the single ‘Shoes‘ “is about how everybody looks in the mirror and for some reason thinks their life isn’t good enough. They look at other people and think the grass is greener on the other side. It’s a reminder for everybody that we’ve only got one life. Live it. Love it. Make the best out of it!” Adcock also said of the song ‘Workin’ Man,’ co-written by Adcock, Luke Laird and Jimi Bell that “this song is for working people. The kind of people who put in long hours, take pride in what they do and make time for the people they love. My fans live that life. They work hard all week and come to our shows ready to have a good time. It’s also about knowing what you deserve. If somebody isn’t treating you right, there’s someone else out there who will. There’s nothing like having a good, hardworking person by your side.”
Adcock continues his headlining The Day I Hang It Up Tour, which will carry him across North America through the fall, with a rotating lineup of special guests including Pecos & The Rooftops, Corey Kent, Tyler Nance, Jake Worthington, The Creekers, Braxton Keith, and Mack Geiger.
