Ne-Yo puts a country spin on the video for ‘Dance Right Now’

Ne-Yo is continuing his country-inspired musical evolution with the release of the music video for “Dance Right Now,” a lively performance clip that blends Southern aesthetics with the singer’s signature R&B style. The visual, released as the latest promotion from his recently issued album Highway 79, embraces a rustic setting filled with line dancing, cowboy-inspired fashion and a celebratory atmosphere, underscoring the crossover direction of the Grammy-winning artist’s latest project.

“Dance Right Now” is one of 11 tracks featured on Highway 79, Ne-Yo’s first full-length country-inspired album. The project marks a significant departure from the sound that made him an R&B mainstay, while maintaining the melodic songwriting that has defined his career. The Arkansas-born performer collaborated with several established Nashville writers and producers on the record, including Luke Laird, Charles Kelley, BRELAND, Rhett Akins, Chuck Harmony and Tayla Parx, with the goal of merging country storytelling and soulful vocals.

In recent interviews, Ne-Yo has said the move into country music was driven by a desire to rediscover creativity after feeling the traditional recording process had become overly formulaic. He has also credited artists including Reba McEntire and the late Dolly Parton for inspiring his appreciation of country music, noting that the genre’s emphasis on storytelling has long resonated with him.

The release of the “Dance Right Now” video arrives as Ne-Yo celebrates the 20th anniversary of his debut album In My Own Words while balancing his new musical chapter with his recent co-headlining “Nights Like This” tour alongside Akon.
